There are many ways to get involved in NCDA, including becoming an official in the role of skating referee (refs) and non-skating official (NSOs). Officials are a vital part of the roller derby experience and make it possible for bouts to occur.
We offer the opportunity to train as a ref or NSO with seasoned derby officials.
During training, refs will learn basic skating skills as well as the rules of roller derby, regulation processes of officiating, verbal cues and hand signals. Refs will also learn to apply the standard practices as a jam ref, inside pack ref and/or outside pack ref.
NSOs in training will learn the basic non-skating positions including penalty tracking, penalty management, score keeping and jam timing They will also receive training in application of standard officiating practices, verbal cues, and hand signals necessary for each NSO position.
